MA, RCC
My intention is to provide you with a genuine and caring support as we walk together along the journey of healing. Working from a person-centered, trauma informed lens I aim to instill self-awareness in setting personal boundaries and level of safety and trust for clients. Utilizing a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy approach to care, it is imperative to create a safe space for you to feel authentic support in allowing your voice to be said and heard. I also inform my work using Motivational Interviewing skills, interpersonal mediation, conflict resolution approaches, while expressing empathy through reflective listening, helping clients to identify their goals and values; ultimately creating empowerment, self-efficacy and optimism.
With the mindset of acceptance, I strive to support people in targeting distressing thoughts, feelings, behaviours and reactions by adjusting one’s relationship with those experiences and develop proactive and healthy coping tools, while living a life full of clarity and genuineness. Drawing from mindfulness techniques in my counselling practice, I endeavor to incorporate self-awareness through living in the present moment, without judgement to any associated sensations, to ultimately enhance self-fulfillment and engagement throughout one’s life.
Additionally, I may integrate Solution-Focused Therapy, Somatic Therapy, Strengths-Based with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction approaches to focus on the best treatment plan for you. This means collaborative work to enhance strength and capacity and as co-therapist, encouraging you to be your most authentic self. My experience with varying mental health issues stem from anxiety and depression, to concurrent disorders with substance use to more severe psychological disorders. Ultimately, my approach is to create a supportive environment for you to feel validated in your thoughts and feelings, as you learn to understand these emotions and build deep connection to oneself and create the empowered change needed to move forward.
